well theres always War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
or Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft (although i'm not sure if that counts as a 'book')
Of Mice and Men is good also

There is something I have always loved about Kipling's "Kim."
"The Scarlet Pimpernel" is fantastic, and I like "A Tale of Two Cities" too.

Phooie. That's the worst question to ask a person like me. "What's your favorite...".

I don't have favorite books. I like them or I don't, though there are some that I'm a bit extra enthused about and a very few I'll definately go out of my way to save other's the utter pain of reading. ;)

Though for stuff over 50 years old, I'd have to say that the stories Air Arthur Conan Doyle wrote that were NOT about Sherlock Holmes (and which he wrote more of than he did about Holmes) are some pretty good reading. Amongst them are "The Lost World" and its sequel. Unfortunately it's hard to find non-Sherlock Doyle books in current printings.
