Seems someone is willing to stick around.

Dang . . . beaten to the punchline again.

Technically . . . but those are important technicalities.

I wonder if the admiral has considered Sorlie's possible defection?

Sorlie still has eye and ear implants, right? I wonder if Sorlie is being monitored 24/7, or if she gets "time off" for safe space and mental health.

Somehow ... if Sorlie does leave, I doubt Bala-Amin will be surprised.

I kind of get the feeling that the Admiral Ambassador might be tempted to join her, were it not for her sense of duty.

Wasn't Sorlee's super secret spy tech broke by the comms killing potato guns?

Wasn't I so secret that it let schlock spy on the monitoring agents?

Haven't they had plenty of time to decide whether to repair or remove the tech? I doubt it's still there, but some equivelent is probably around somewhere

Having cameras implanted into your eyes seems like kind of a permanent fixture to me. She would probably have to get a new set of eyeballs to get rid of them, and that hasn't been mentioned.

She is probably being actively monitored when on-duty (like when she is talking to Big Not-Dumb Object) and, if the agency monitoring her is sane and well-funded (which it was last book, anyway) she is probably being passively monitored when off-duty, with an AI or SI keeping an ear open for key words like "Classified Secret" and "UNS soil" to trigger a brief forward-and-backward scan for interesting content.

Why?

Nano can repair pretty much any damage done to flesh (and most everything else). Those cameras in her Mark 1's (as well as the bonephone) were only as permanent as her handlers needed them to be.

Whelp, whether or not she does, the UNS doesn't know about this, since Petey does not wish for them to.

Or when he doesn't.

People get grumpy when they are stopped from becoming what they want to be. In this case, Sorlee probably doesn't want to keep working for the UNS. Which begs the question, what was she angling for?

Petey doesn't quite get that giving people true personal freedom means letting them make choices they know could hurt them, possibly very badly. No surprise though, many a parent has a hard time learning that lesson; you can stop a toddler from touching a hot stove as many times as you can, but they'll keep trying to touch it until they get burnt and learn for themselves why it's a bad idea.

I don't think its that: I think Petey simply wants something from Sorlee, and is making sure she can provide it.

He also prefer to manipulate people into corners so they do exactly what, when, and how he wants it. I think Sorlie has seen this or intuited it and is reacting appropriately.
