"Banzai bonsai" needs to be a battle call. Doubtless it will be an order to retreat, but hey, you take what you can get.

Yes, it is a good shrubbery. I like the laurels particularly.

The tree turned into Flowey the Flower, I wouldn't consider it any less threatening either.

OK, my teeth were clenched, but on third viewing of this page I still end up chuckling. It's just, the Bonzai-sized god-tree looks so *contrite*.

The strip is funny as hell, but I note a few things that I find extremely interesting:
Zhe. The aliens in this strip have generally used he/she distinction, while this is a constructed genderless pronoun.
Slice. This is definitely a new term. Context seems to make it equivalent to a 'fork' in eclipse phase and other transhuman-type literature.

It might suggest that this matroshka brain has many instances of each occupant running, and that they don't really use genders. And really, that makes some sense to me. After millions of years of being run on a server, what meaning would gender even have? I can't remember things that happened last week, can these people even remember if their species had those distinctions?

Maybe the tree doesn't have a gender.

Zhe could also be a preferred pronoun.

One language I was speculating for one of my worlds had male, female, neuter, indeterminate/neutral, hermaphroditic and indifferent . . . indeterminate, indifferent & neuter could also be added to any of the others as a suffix.

It was a regularization of a pidgin, and a couple of the root languages had oddities that the using culture had found useful.

And it was as aggressive about "loan" words as english.

Chasing other languages down dark alleys to knock them senseless and rifle their pockets for loose vocabulary?

I find it interesting that the simulation seems to be somewhere around meat glacier speed, at least for the new tenants. Either the consciousnesses running the Matrioshkya don't want it any other way or they don't have the ressources to bring everyone up to actual AI level.

Or maybe they find that a few thousand years of isolation at a high clock rate makes you a little nutty. I wouldn't be surprised if they were downclocked normally and are now overclocking until this situation is resolved.

I took "slice" to mean a dedicated chunk of CPU time. Assuming that the denizens of 4118-6 are themselves "virtualized".

"Slice" might also refer to the Matrioshka brain structure itself, which is supposed to be multiple concentric spheres of computer. Of course, that interpretation means that the individual devoting a "slice" is high ranking enough to commandeer a full layer of the brain for the purposes of orientation, and also needs all that computing power for the conversation.

I think that's too extreme, though, so I think DancesWithBikers is right that it means timeslice. That squares with the context of the line they say it in, which read to me like "excuse me for a moment". The administrator (?) is giving the situation their full attention for a while.

My vote is for a self fork of some sort. Like a parallel process that merges or syncs with the original. he might be apologizing because he is momentarily offline while the copy is being made.

Or every individual gets so many instances, and he needs the one currently engaged in casual conversation to go prevent the new minds from getting scarred.

Whatever the case, I do think this backs up my earlier theory that the All-Stars are big on preserving minds for their own sake.

That makes a bit of sense considering the current page; the admin appears to be having individual conversations with each individual simultaneously.

Though... this is a virtual environment. "Simultaneously" could be "In sequence, but we suspend subjective time for everyone not currently being spoken to".

That's how I took it.

I think I like this demiurge a lot more than the last one.
