So. I've been complaining for a while about bits of story and whatnot. So let me be the first to say, I'm really digging Howard's drawings of the shields in an enclosed space.

Also chekhov as a sound effect. Heh.

My favorite is still "Bonsai!"

If you are close enough to observe, firsthand, with the unaided eye, the gravitic "braiding" around a ship-mounted weapon's fire...
you are too ****ing close.

Oh, but it will be a fun story to tell the grand-kids. Provided the radiation doesn't kill you. Or do other things to you that make having kids inadvisable.

In Schlockiverse, not even death can prevent you from having grand-kids. Awarding Darwin award is permanently suspended.

Oh, it's still possible, at least in theory--but it's a lot more difficult. Laz-5 with no genetic material saved....

Having no genetic material saved isn't enough, you also have to erase the medical scans of every genetic/DNA map you've ever had made, meaning, most likely, if you've been in military service, in jail, or some sort of federal agent, their own very probable records that could be used to match your remains to you or implicate/clear you of a crime.

Remember, they can build DNA from data in Schlock, all they need is that data.

I'm not sure, but I'm just going to assume that the soundeffect is also a pun, in terms ov chekhing ovv items from Cindy's bucket list. It's more fun that way.

Considering how the last line before it fires ends in "check off", I'd wager it is also doubling as a pun in addition to the obvious Chekhov's Gun ref.

Can anyone make out the signature in the gravetic braiding?

It does not look like the artist's or the colorist's. And, while I can reduce the selection set for some of the characters, I'm not good enough at Jeopardy to figure it out.

My guesses for each potential character, in order of likelihood:

[not a letter, l, I, any capital], [i,e,a,o], [y,xj], [o,u,v], [l,f,J,e], ...ongoing trailing illegible scribbling

I've been wondering too. It does look like writing but I can't make sense of it.
