Right Reaver? "Oh, the fact that everybody is immortal and their minds are basically software now is overplayed. The next book will probably be shooting things shenanigans."

The universe of Schlock Mercenary has irrevocably changed. It would be truly bizarre if it DIDN'T factor in.

Actually, brain backup and hacking goes all the way back to the first book, and the magic cyrokit, and Haban/Doyt.

It got easier when you could just infect the off-body backup and trigger a reload. We saw that with both bots and people. But a straight-up "here's new brain code for your body" was as old as Mako, and wasn't even new stuff then.

Para and Petey need to have some dialog together. Just because.

The magic cryokit didn't do bunk to brains. The most it did there was fill in destroyed brain matter and give the AI full control of the resulting vegetable.

The rev once commented that nobody had interest in mind-copying tech because of the continuity problem. That's where it was left for many, many books.

Except for the fact that the magic cryokit itself held memories of Doctor what's his name. Which is basically half of RED to begin with - backing up your memories is it.

I don't recall it ever having his memories.

Didn't DO things to brains. Yes, it had TODD's memories, though it denied 'being' him. We also don't know how the doc got those memories out of his own head - certainly the magic cryokit never read anybody else's memories.

I mean sure, it was the precursor to the brain-whatit storylines we've got now, but the magic cryokit's methods and universal implications were never a plot focus. Possession of it was, but not the implications of the tech itself.
