So. Given that stupid laws are the order of the day, any takers for the WAG that the only way for the Toughs to exit this situation, will to be once again default on their contract?

Honestly, at this point they're not mercenaries. They're the Ein-Petey alliance roving fix-squad.

They don't shoot things for money anymore - they shoot them because they like shooting, and they can feel good about doing it.

The Toughs can't default on this contract. Since it is literally illegal for them to have a contract in this situation. They know full well they aren't going to get paid for this. I wonder if that's why the comic is going to end. Not because everyone is going to die, but because you can't have schlock mercenary if they're no longer mercenaries.

The crew itself is called Tagon's Toughs so it's fine. I'm sure there's more than one webcomic who's name is no longer valid - The Whiteboard comes to mind.

The toughs can't get PAID legally, I'm pretty sure they can still have a contract.

And man, The Whiteboard's name was only valid for... five strips, or something?
EDIT: Went and caught up on TWB, since it was mentioned. The last couple months of strips were... unexpected!

I wasn't expecting yesterday's nature channel special that's for sure.

Does Ventura look older to anyone else, or is it just me?

A little bit, she might have gotten a new head. or enough time had passed that she's nearly done puberty.

Ennesby specifically said contracting services was illegal. The only time payment was mentioned was in describing unrenumerated services of family members. From the sounds of it the law is intended to prevent outside parties from making any kind of legal claims based on the help they provide. Likely to prevent unscrupulous parties from preying on the desperate, but also working against people who genuinely want to help. So the only way in is if there is no contract of any kind.

I went back and looked at some of her old appearances. Her face is pretty much the same as its always been. The difference is the much shorter hair. It makes her look more mature than her old ponytail.

I think if they grew back the head they would have thrown a few inches of hair back in as a package deal. Same if she lost a good deal of scalp. I rather think something burned off her hair alone and only needed to heal some singe.

This - the "You have 20 minutes" bit is why you never tell the brass the truth when they ask "how long will it take".

Of course, they were low ranking once, so they know the game. Pity they can't just tell the truth. At least in small stuff like this.

Well I guess they do have a contract after all. Probably had to go through some legal shenanigans to get it, but that's not new for them. Still I don't see how they can default when they aren't getting paid anything anyway.
