Ever since taking a call from her sister she's been pushed into things she's not comfortable with and had things done to her, without her permission.

I'm waiting for her eventual "No, fuck you guys, I'm doing this my way" (just hopefully not another "my way is to roll into combat naked").

Yeah, it started with Chinook, was escalated by her squadmates, the brass, then Neeka, and now Tailor....this is a very poor day for Peri.

She's going to end up yelling at and punching somebody sooner or later. Hopefully it'll be at a useful time and place. And somebody who isn't going to shoot or court martial her.

It might be Kaff. He seems the type who'd be more impressed by that than upset that a junior officer tried to clock him after a spectacularly bad and stressful day where everyone has been pushing their buttons like a pigeon in a skinner box.

The problem is, a lot of the people pushing Peri into things are people superior in rank to her. She doesn't run Tagon's Toughs, she's not even in a position of authority there, if I recall correctly. That means she has to ask the Toughs for help, and is at their mercy as a result. That help will come with conditions.

Sure, she can tell them to all go screw themselves sideways and book her own passage home, but what can she do by herself when she gets there, especially against the factions who don't want the dead bought back? No, I think she's just going to have to suck it up, swallow and try to negotiate the competing demands required of her best as she is able. Flipping out and snapping at (or hitting!) people is not going to be a useful option for her, not when she needs the goodwill of powerful allies.

Less that he'd be impressed... more that he'd take it on the chin, exit through the wall, and perform a perfect 3-point landing.

I'm foreseeing a situation soon where she really does end up taking control of things and be fairly badass.

Pretty much called it right there. Now we'll see if that worked out or not.

It's not exactly what I had in mind, but I'll take it.

Peri should have been better briefed so as to not get blindsided by the trophy or trophies.

Either taking trophies is a cultural norm, or it is not . . . in either case, it should be known and Peri should have been briefed on it.

Unless shock and fury was the desired reaction, of course!

By Kath's facepalming we know it wasn't.

But it was the proper reaction.

And Kaff was unfazed. But then I'm pretty sure he came to the exact same conclusion as Peri.

Some men you just can't reach... and then you get what we're gonna get tomorrow. But he wants it, so he get's it!

"Far mightier than the toy soldiers you rented," my fanny. I sincerely doubt our Shiplord took that from a soldier who had destroyed a battleplate.

Even if taking trophies is a cultural norm you'd have to have really detailed information to know that one particular commander took a trophy that one particular species would find highly offensive.

Friend of mine suggested that - if it didn't come from blowing up the civilian refinery that kicked off this arc - it was probably something like "he and a dozen of his fellow militia thugs bravely ambushed a couple of Fobott'r they spotted walking where they didn't like them."

But there should have been a warning that this culture takes trophies.

Peri should have been warned, and apparently was not.

I suspect it's not, generally, and that this guy and his goons are that special breed of ******* that take being offensive to the next level.

Which would explain why he's getting set up to take the fall.

However, Enesby and the other AIs should have been able to get enough SigInt to know about him.

I'm sure they uncovered and warned about his ideology and jerk tendencies, but the very specific offense he went out of his way to inflict couldn't have been predicted by any record.
