She's fighting dirty . . .

Oh, there are so many bad jokes . . .

And if they're as catlike as they seem, they're not going to want to go in there . . .

Honestly, I'm not that furry, and I don't want to either!

(For those that don't know, black water is what comes out of the bottom of a toilet . . . )

Why is Elf taking the time to do this, when they could be on the receiving end of a long gun shot any minute? The engineer bug's right, she should just scuttle the ship. Doing it her way is when they have the luxury of time.

My read on that is that they're not worried about Long Gun shots, they're worried about the incoming Uupplechan fleet.

If they keep the Soulward Honour looking like a viable prize, it will divert some of the fleet into securing it. Especially if it's between the bulk of that incoming fleet and the Cynthetic Certainty, it might by enough time for escape.

I had something similar planned for the fire control computer if I ever needed to abandon it. Every piece had a single clock card. Remove those, bingo, everything dead.

That was the fire direction computer, used IBM 360 era tech. Now they use laptops.

Wow, the bugs are being pretty prudent today.

Besides, you don't throw the cap stack in the sewer. You lay it out, fully charged, on a non-conductive surface, in an easy to find spot. Preferably somewhere where a non-armored target is likely to pick it up thinking "what is this?"

I think they're going for passive-aggressive resistance rather than trying to kill anyone, otherwise they'd just leave behind a bunch of live explosives.

I'm calling it now: The Toughs will end up in possession of the prize ship.

Reading today's comic, something just crossed my mind: I'm afraid Elf might want to die on Soulward Honor (or however is that ship called) so that she doesn't have to remember this day first being so perfect (she get's own ship, Kevyn has an epiphany) only to completely unravel like that. I suspect she might want to stay on board, hoping to die and get restored from backup that doesn't remember any of that.

Seems pretty clear, really. Well, not necessarily the "why" of it, although I think you've probably got it pretty much down, but definitely the "what." That sort of "go ahead, I should be the last one off" kind of thing tends to be a big dramatic sign that the person actually intends to stay and die.

It's pretty selfish of Elf especially when normally you can just down a dozen chasers and get the same effect.

I'm betting that despite her best efforts, she remains alive anyway.

That she will have to restore this ship to working order?

The 'cherry' is 'living to remember this day', the 'shit cake' is 'having to undo all the doodoo she has done'.

The whole point was to make restoration really slow.

No, she intends to stay behind and make it harder to restore because the techs keep getting killed.

What was that guy - died defending a footbridge?
