It's not a spaceship?

That's an appalling lack of foresight!

(Yes, that really was my first thought.)

I'm just wondering if Sorlie knows that she's bullying a God-blessed polar bear.

I am pretty sure Sorlie knows that a polar bear is being bullied but not knowing WHAT a polar bear is and is capable of.
A little learning can be a dangerous thing.

I think Sorlie is fully aware of who and what she is bullying. Even if she doesn't know what a polar bear is or Landon's combat record, both of which are rather unlikely, she can easily see that he's a cyborg that is several times her weight and symbiotically linked with a sentient weapon.

Sorlie just gets assertive in emergencies.

That they are friends and worked together previously is just escaping everyone's memory?

Sorlie is capable of weighing a polar bear's resentment with the UNS firing on her position, or possibly the death of all things due to careless remarks by a polar bear.

Polar bears weigh a lot, but they are outweighed by everything.

I mean yeah... they're friends and all? But I still don't think it's a great idea to grab a polar bear by his flipping beard. Why not crack wise about height to an axe-wielding dwarf while you're at it? :p

Because he's in easy attack range of your groin?

Sorlie tried to get him to shut up with other methods first, hence the mention of head shaking. When he still didn't shut up, she escalated to the physical.

In particular, things are tense, and Landon saying the wrong words may get Chinook fired upon by long guns and hitting. Landon going mad and ripping off his superior's arm may get HIM shot, but that probably won't start an intergalactic war.

Seriously, weighing it up, risk of galactic war, risk of getting your arm ripped off temporarily, I know which I'd believe I'd take. It's still gutsy on Sorlie's part even though Landon's a friend, but come on. She's got every right to do so.

Besides, everyone and their mother grabs Schlock, and he's at least as dangerous as a polar bear in close combat.

Honestly I think the idea that Landon would hurt Sorlie over this is doing him a great disservice. Yes he's a death machine in combat, but he's never shown any predilection to getting too angry or hurting his allies. Especially in a non combat situation.

OH! I forgot about that part, I read a *lot* of stories.. and when I made my comment, I was a bit tipsy and couldn't get past the gut-level "Uh, seriously? He is a bear. O.o" and got a good laugh out of it.

Oh, and I am TERRIFIED of bears.
