Like i said, it's easier to play with the incoming data than to play with the outgoing results.


However, I am disappointed that it was only the targeting data they were able to jiggle. All they did was delay armegeddon by a few minutes....

They were likely keeping their manipulation as secret as they could while gathering information and setting up for when Chinook figured it out. That few minutes is an ETERNITY for AIs at the level of Petey, Putzho, Iafa, and Chinook, and they appear to have postponed it longer than just a few minutes. I'd say closer to an hour.

And that's probably the easiest way to have done it, too. The data was probably accurate, but delayed.
Our sun is traveling along at 720,000 kph, Jupiter is speeding along in its orbit at 47,051 kph, (for a total that is anywhere from 672,949 to 767,051 kph).
Just a fraction of a second delay would result in a shot being off by miles.

A mere 10 millisecond delay would result in an average miss on the order of 2km.

(or 1869.30 to 2130.70 meters, if you prefer.)
