Yes, it's my favorite web game in all the internet, Keenspace Roulette!

I'm having so much fun with this game that I thought I'd share. THe object of this game is to find a good webcomic that almost noone, including yourself, has ever heard of before. You just use this link to go to a random keenspace comic. Then post any good finds (or bad finds that you can make fun of) here. It's that simple.

Remember, posting something that you found a link to is cheating. Happy hunting 8-)

Wow. There are a lot of horrible webcomics. I only found one out of the 10 that I looked at that was halfway decent. But I had seen it before through a link and it hasn't updated in over a year and a half.

But man that first one... *wistles*.

I would be ashamed to have my name be mentioned within a mile of that one. Wow.

one outta ten is actually a good score. Don't be afraid to post links.

Speaking of, http://bloodmoon.keenspace.com is my proof that acceptable technical drawing skill is easily ruined by bad character design. I'm only glad that the "artist" never actually started the comic.

Actually, it said he used Hero Ceater to draw those. He has no artistic talent that we know of as of yet

First try.

The art isn't bad at all, at least what is shown. There isn't really a comic there yet.

My most recent win: Rêveillerie http://hootoo.keenspace.com/

It's not very funny, but then I don't think it's meant to be. What it is is very pretty, and has the makings of a very well writen story.

I found that one a few days ago, but I had already read through about six different comics, so I didn't read it...

Now I am, though.

I haven't found a good comic using that random comic thingy, though.

EDIT: I found "Sea of Insanity", which seems pretty good ( http://fractuslux.keenspace.com ), although I think I may have heard of it before...

Tonight at the magical wheel:

[00:11:14] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "The Earwig Chronicles" I'm not sure I want this thing to load.
[00:12:07] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "Bubble Gum Chewed Street" This is a bad day to be spinning the wheel-o-eyeforks, I can tell
[00:13:26] <Chalain> It laid eggs! IT LAID EEEEEGGGGSSSS!!!
[00:15:20] <Pronto> Chalain.... Howyrd is in S_M. And being half-funny.
[00:15:20] <Pronto> He needs you.
[00:15:25] * KS-Roulette_Tiger notes that no, you don't have to post your stick figure comic strip with enough resoultion for me to make out the fibers on the notebook paper you used.
[00:17:38] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> I must tell abcd_z that his comic has been replaced as the worst comic I can think of.
[00:18:34] <Pronto> lol
[00:20:28] <Kazriko> heh
[00:20:28] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Yes, that coveted spot has been replaced by the earwig strip, which appears to be an RP gaming strip, about earwigs. Poorly drawn earwigs.
[00:21:03] <Kazriko> heh
[00:25:02] *** Samalander is now known as sleep-sama

[00:33:34] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "AHHHHH!! The Keenspace internet mafia sent their bunny assassins! We're gonna die!"

That last comic was http://commonknowledge.keenspace.com/ and was god help me, the best find of the night.

Don't dis MSPaint. You'd be amazed at what it can do when used properly.

There's a prime example on the Walky boards. It's not perfect, but it's up to or above the standards of a lot of hand-drawn comics, including the first chapter of Exco.

I'm sorry, let me clarify.

MS Paint. Thick, black lines. Looks like it took two seconds to do.

It is difficult to make something look good using only MS Paint. Not impossible (as the example you put forth shows) but really freakin hard.

I'd complain about performing thread necromancy, but I'm performing forum necromancy as well. Assuming everyone hasn't put this forum on ignore already.

[04:05:03] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> okay, this is bad. "Twin Ninjas" Somehow, the author of this one has ninjas and badly drawn Jr. high students confused.
[04:13:17] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Might as well spew my ranting in here, since I appear to be the only one awake
[04:15:38] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "1337 Punx" I wonder if someone can find their address and beat the $|-|17 out of them?
[04:18:27] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "Roxy: Comic Book Superhero - Updated whenever the artist wishes." Read whenever I feel the need to beat my skull agianst a metal spike.
[04:20:35] <Demonius> what?
[04:23:14] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Random Keenspace comics.
[04:23:33] *** Deathstalker (~konversat@Nightstar-4841.ks.ok.cox.net) has joined #schlock_mercenary
[04:23:48] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> I do that every once in a while.
[04:24:08] <Demonius> i have my own list of daily comics, but i didnt know these
[04:26:06] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Be glad for the most part.
[04:26:24] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> These are literaly at random.
[04:27:31] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> http://leetpunx.keenspace.com/ <- would you read that on a dare?
[04:27:38] <Demonius> i dunno.
[04:27:58] <Demonius> i might check on the artwork, and mostly im either immeditaley comfortable or uncomfortable with it
[04:28:17] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Look and despair mortal.
[04:29:03] <Demonius> looks stupid.
[04:29:18] <Demonius> no need to go further into depth.
[04:30:20] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Exactly.
[04:30:39] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> THat's above avrage quality for Keenspace.
[04:31:40] <Demonius> actually, about 15 or more of my daily comics are on keenspot/keenspace
[04:32:30] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Yup. The bad news is that there's somewhere around 8000 "comics" on keenspace.
[04:33:06] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> about 2000 of them actually are comics, and about half of those are like that one or worse.
[04:33:25] <Demonius> "H3y d00d 1 m4d3 a cewl sprite-comic at k33nsp07?
[04:33:40] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> About 1 in 10 are worth reading IMHO
[04:34:34] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Actually, space (not spot, the keenspotters are touchy about that) outlawed sprite comics for fear of copyright issues.
[04:35:09] <Demonius> i mostly jump to new comics when they feature them in their "comic of the day/week" box.
[04:36:03] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> I used to do that, but I've found that that misses the ocasional good comic that almost noone knows about.
[04:37:25] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> AH another Jewel of Hell. "Gafy" Hey look, I can make bad mspaint art and hit copy AND paste, I'm so cool.
[04:39:30] <Demonius> i could do that too!
[04:40:09] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> If you go sign up for a space account, I WILL kill you.
[04:42:07] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "NYC is like a graveyard" Well, why dop you insist on subjecting me to that?
[04:43:02] <Demonius> you might want to kill, but first you would have to find me.
[04:44:31] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> They'll log your IP, and from there I will track you back to your rotting, slime-filled lair.

[23:16:03] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "Innies and Outies" Blah, heard of it, reads like the bastard child of Garfield and Peanuts, not much to keep me around.
[23:16:37] <Fennecus> KS-Roulette_Tiger: so a kid with a football head sits around all day eating lasagna, sleeping, and abusing his beagle?
[23:17:42] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Almost, only it appears to be a robotic dog instead of a cat, and a robot teddy bear instead of a beagle.
[23:17:43] <Fennecus> er
[23:17:45] <Fennecus> not football
[23:17:47] <Fennecus> baseball
[23:17:51] <Fennecus> wrong ball
[23:18:29] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "Keep Left" It's not so much that there's no comic, it's that there is a comic.
[23:19:06] <Fennecus> Anyway. Garfield was a very funny strip... the first few times through. But now that it's recycling its jokes for the fortieth time...
[23:19:11] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> AAAUGH SPRITE COMIC! getitoffgetitoffgetitoff!
[23:19:36] <Corran[Giant_Rabbit]> he he.
[23:19:38] <Fennecus> KS-Roulette_Tiger: Now, now... it is possible to be a sprite comic and be good.
[23:19:49] <Fennecus> cf. 8-Bit Theatre, Kid Radd.
[23:20:21] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "Thwack: A crime against humanity" Somehow, I don't think this is one of those.
[23:20:40] <Fennecus> :)
[23:20:49] <Fennecus> KS-Roulette_Tiger: what about "Scrolling Blackout"?
[23:21:18] * KS-Roulette_Tiger doesn't like 8-bit either, and is backed up on his opinion of sprite comics by the author of 8-bit.
[23:21:42] <Corran[Giant_Rabbit]> bah, 8bT is great.
[23:22:01] <Fennecus> KS-Roulette_Tiger: try _Kid Radd_. After a moderate to slow intro, it's pretty darned amazing. :)
[23:22:03] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> His percise wods were, and I quote "Who the hell would look at a piece of crap like that?"
[23:22:42] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Nah, if I wanted a great story, and I admit that some of them have good stories, I'd read a book.
[23:22:51] <Fennecus> heh

[23:24:23] <VidTheKid> wait for them to go on keenspot?
[23:24:28] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> THat's how I do it. I've got about 5 or 6 good ones posted though.
[23:25:02] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> I feel that spot has kinda gone downhill in the past year or so.
[23:25:15] <Corran[Giant_Rabbit]> Sad.
[23:25:49] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> Nah, I get about 1 in 10 that are readable, and about 1 in 30 that are really really good.
[23:26:43] <KS-Roulette_Tiger> "BoneJack and Hefty" The best thing to say about this one, is that it's over.

Innies and Outies isn't that terrible. It just isn't particularly creative. Leonard tries to emulate Calvin & Hobbes too much, and also goes for the newspaper comics "awww" instead of the yuks.

Hope you don't mind, but I thought I'd jump in here with a comment.

Thanks to the introductions of several new characters, I've spent this last year breaking away from the early Calvin and Hobbes influences. I won't deny that I go for 'awww' - that's just who I am so there's no denying that. Unfortunately, it's tough to break away from that early reputation as an attempt at emulating Calvin and Hobbes.

On a related note, I mentioned this game to Kelly Price (Keenspace admin) once and got a list of comics he liked in return. Some people just don't get it.

Today I have a special one-off rant about Take Steve to School. This is an important rant, so pay attention.

Everytime I play this game, I get about 8 really bad comics with neither writing nor art whose "author," and I use the term loosly, even with the quotes, has an overexaraterated idea of his "skill," usually of his "m4d $killz."

Of the comics that I see that are good, about half of them have either ended due to a complete and total lack of readership or have very low opinions of their art and writing, apparently not having seen the first year or two of most of Keenspot's comics. It's for this reason that I spin the Wheel O' Eyeforks, just to see those good, even great comics whose authors have a bad case of Piroitis and don't advertise their comics.

Take Steve to School is one of the latter. The current update schedule seems to be somewhat slower than continental drift, but the art is amazing, and the writing shows more promise then many of the full-time webcomic artists out there. The boy's got promise, but I don't quite think he realizes it.

So go read Take Steve to School and it's when he doesn't feel like writing a long comic, Waste of Time. Then tell your friends. Then yell at the author for not updating enough.

While Revellerie looks astoundingly good at first glance, it becomes amazing after you find out the author is this adorable 16 year old girl.

It doesn't really surprise me, the comic has that almost but not quite lost innosence quality to it. It also has the update schedule of something being written by someone with the work ethic of a 16 year-old. Oh well, I read it anyway.
