Well, here's what happened with the forums.

I've been wanting to upgrade to phpBB 2 for a while now, because it's really slick, and incredibly nice. However, I just wasn't in the mood for the hassle.

But last night, I decided to go ahead with it, because the old forum was sooo sloooooowwwww during the daytime. It seems that MySQL takes a huge performance hit when it gets lots of use, and there are about 45 other people on the same server as I am, several with very busy websites. I was not pleased, and decided to change things over to PostgreSQL.

Well here's the thing. phpBB 1.4.2 doesn't work with PostgreSQL. phpBB 2.0 does. Perfect excuse to upgrade, and with added traffic coming in from the Keenspot forum outage, more than enough reason to make the Zoo all zippy-like.

However, due to some of the mods I installed in the old software (like avatars, forum ordering, and some other stuff), the databases were juuuust different enough that the phpBB 2 installer absolutely refused to upgrade.

So, I had to make the tough choice. Do we suffer with forums that take up to a minute to pull up the page, and which are built mostly out of pure kludge, or do we lose all the user information and posts and upgrade to this slick, pretty, and fast piece of software?

I decided the latter. Please don't throw too much poop at me, you monkeys.

Besides, if this forum got more use, I would have been much more inclined to spend a few hours tinkering with it to avoid data loss.

So if you don't want it to happen again, DON'T IGNORE THIS FORUM!

jeez, it's that simple, people, really. :D

Oh, sure, it may look like I'm caving in to peer pressure from Oggy, but I assure you, I am not really posting a message to this Forum.

Not yet, anyway.

I just might do that later on, if I decide I want to. But as of right now, you did not just read a message from KareNin on this board.

I think you made the right choice Ogredude. This forum is now zippedy fast and I really like the looks and the way that it runs. Having to re-register is only a minor annoyance. Thanks for providing the great playground! :D

/me Incinerates Pronto for that hideous pun. The power of Cardboard Magic :D

Incinerate
{1}{R}
Instant
Incinerate deals 3 damage to target creature or player. A creature dealt damage this way can't be regenerated this turn.
