OK, folks, we've taken some measures to reduce the amount of spam the Zoo gets.

First, all new user registrations require a valid email address. The system will set a password and email it to you. This should prevent a lot of the spammers who provide fake email addresses.

Second, besides The Bug House, anonymous posting has been disabled on all forums. The Bug House will remain open to anonymous posting, since it's awful hard to post about a problem with your account if you have to be logged into your account to post.

Thanks for your patience, folks. Enjoy!

We are still getting a lot of spam in the bug house, so we've taken it one step further. Anonymous users are no longer allowed to post URLs.

If you want to post a url - at least a url that will be clickable on the zoo - you have to be registered. Anything that the zoo would make linkable is now denied to anonymous posters.

This change shouldn't affect any of our forums for now. I had to make one other change in the configuration, which will affect some users. "<a>" is no longer an allowed html tag in posts. The workaround is to use [url] for links instead, which has always been preferred.

If this works out, then we can re-enable anonymous posting for the forums that want it.
