As many of you know we have been working on updating the network quite a bit over the last month. Now we have one more addition.

We have officially launched our irc client for web users:

http://webchat.nightstar.net

As we have been talking about in other threads on the Zoo here we may be limiting mibbit connections to Nightstar in a more dramatic way in the near future and this is a very viable replacement. Our old java chat client (http://syloq.lomag.net/chat.php) will continue to work for the time being, but it may go away entirely at some point. We'll keep you apprised of its status and if its going away.

We hope this to be the first of many new changes we're working on...with many more to come.

I haven't seen any documentation about it, but is the new webchat application able to receive variables from the URL? I used to use ~&server=irc.nightstar.net&channel=%23demonpop&noServerNotices=true&noServerMotd=true&autoConnect=true&nick=SAIT_%3F%3F%3F%3F with the mibbit client, as a way to pass people directly to a channel with a pre-set nick, which I usually put into a tinyurl. Is there any such functionality here?

Yes. Very similar, probably shorter as well. open up the webchat, on the upper left hand corner there is an icon that has the word "IRC" in it. Click it and then down to "Add webchat to your site". Follow the prompts and you'll have something you can bookmark for future use. (Hint: the back/next buttons are on the very bottom right hand corner of the application)

Enjoy.

Ah, silly of me to have missed that. Thanks, then.

Recently we have added a Flash IRC client known as "LightIRC". (Yes, I know. Flash, ugh. But surprisingly this client is nifty and requires little to no effort to run and setup.) We hope that at least a few of you will try it out and see how you like it.

The URL for this flash client is on our main webpage http://nightstar.net

If you have questions feel free to ask.
