The retired Kitty Hawk-class supercarrier ex USS America, unlike its sister ship Forrestal, is to be <a href="http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,FL_sink_030405,00.html?ESRC=dod.nl">sunk as part of an exercise.</a>
Remote and telemetry observation will be used to see exactly how a supercarrier reacts to damage. Of course, that will be without the benefit of having human damage control crews on board.
This will be the first time we've used a ship this size for a sink-ex (although sunk in war is another matter).
