What exactly do you mean by linear, by the way?

well, in this case, it doesn't matter because it may or may not be linear. ;)

but, in the last puzzle, i actually meant in english style, left to right, doesn't matter about vertical alignment or any other such thing. Purely one dimensional.

So, i guess i'm saying that it is possible for the spacing to matter in this one, unlike the last one, where the spacing did not matter one bit.
Aka, every row in this has 16 symbols, the 5th symbol in every line is directly in line with the 5th symbol in every other line, and so forth. weither this comes into play in the code or not, you will have to determine.

If it helps any, the first clue is up in about 5 hours or so. (a little short of 48, but I need to sleep early tonight.)

Perhaps Kaz has deviously hit upon the idea of a homophonic cipher...one in which the more common letters get more than one symbol. Thus, e could have several different symbols, or, in this case, digraphs (two-letter groups), while uncommon letters like q or z would just get one. With 8 letters, there's 64 possible digraphs...plenty for some extra letters.

By the way, if you haven't hit upon that idea, yet, Kaz, don't use it, 'cause deciphering those things is a (pardon my English) bitch.
