Is it always this anti-Catholic in here, or is just because the Pope died recently that the papist-bashers are feeling their oats? I'm not Catholic, myself, but I just noticed a fairly strong "the Catholics are nutballs" vibe to the Voice and the Snake section.

I guess the death of the Pope has brought Catholicism back into the spotlight here on the forum.

MrNexx, being the religious discussion room, there is usually a large amount of both anti and pro-religion vibes in here.

The Pope's death has just focused the discussion towards the Roman Catholics right now.

AS a matter of fact, some of the regulars here are catholics themselves (well, at least one I name right off, anyway.)

No offense to anyone, but it's kind of hard to disagree with that particular notion. (not that any other particular religious sect is any better, mind)

Speaking only for myself, any religion in which all the members are perfectly sane, well-adjusted and rational is one I would fear and despise above all others.

Nutballs are interesting.

Reading a post entails reading all of it.

So I failed... I don't think there is a polite way to say "Read the whole post, Jimbo!" :)

The only reason I was trying for 'polite' is that you, Ahn Minh, work hard, and usually successfully, at being polite.
But you usually read all the post, too. :P

Huh? Why?

Ha, ha, only serious. 8-)

Think about it for a moment. Human beings, as a collective, are not sane. In any random sampling, you're going to find your fair share of neurotics, paranoids, manic-depressives, schizoids, split personalities, obsessive-compulsives, &c. This is normal and expected, especially in our modern society and its inclination to diagnose any deviation from the norm as incipient insanity and proscribe a pill treatment, twice a day at mealtimes. It's also no accident that the above traits are often closely linked with creative greatness - you don't do impressive things without being at least a little bit Out There.

Any religion - or any other social construct - which has eliminated all forms of incipient insanity in all its members is well on its way to creating a subhuman hivemind, IMHO. That, or they've all repressed something awful and will go batshit any time now. Either way, I'm keeping my distance.

The good old naturalistic fallacy: "Well, gee, the world is full of whack jobs, therefore things must be better with whack jobs!"

Abraham Lincoln was a terminal depressive. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a maniac. And Sir Isaac Newton wasn't exactly rowing with both oars in the water either.

You want to tell me that the world would really be a better place if everyone was completely and totally sane? 8-)

First demonstrate that Lincoln would have been a nobody without depression.

Hm...I'm no expert on their biographies, but I think Einstein, Edison and Mark Twain were pretty sane folks...So pehapse the reason some great folks are crazy is simply statistics: There's enough great men for some of them to be mad.

Huh? I can't speak to the others, but Edison was pretty much a textbook example of OCD. That's why he came up with all that stuff; he's keep working until he was almost dead.
