Anzac Day, 25 April, is coming up. It is one of the most sacred holidays in Australia and New Zealand. A traditional recipe for Anzac biscuits is here. The article also explains how the tradition started and where the recipe came from.

Anzac Day commemmorates the landing at Suvla Bay in the Dardanelles (then in the Ottoman Empire, now in Turkey) of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) on 25 April 1915. The battle against the Turks resulted in a terrible rout for the antipodeans, partly caused by incompetent orders (from the British) and faulty maps (the ANZAC landed at the wrong beach). One good thing that came out of it was that when the Turkish commander, Mustafa Kemal, became the first president of the new Turkey after the war, he immediately forged ties of friendship between his country and Australia and NZ which endure to this day.

Anzac sounds like medicine.
