What's your favorite TV chef, past or present?

For me, it's a tossup between Alton Brown and Martin Yan.

Actually I was flipping around the other day and I saw Yan Can Cook on PBS for the first time in about ten years. It made me smile.

No, really seriously, my favourite TV chefs are Ian Parmenter and Martin Yan.

I liked the Frugal Gourmet, mostly because he was about the only chef on TV when I went through my watching-cooking-shows phase.

Oh, and I loved the guy from Louisiana, can't remember his name. He did Cajun and Creole cooking all the time, and he had a thicker accent than Martin Yan.

The worst chef in a cooking show, is Vincent Schiavelli. The show is actually pretty good, but Vincent is the ugliest human being ever. How can you eat after watching him talk?

Let's go old school: Julia Child. Save the liver!

I love the one Julia Child show where she accidentally drops a chicken (or was it a turkey?) on the floor, picks it up, and says "This won't hurt it a bit!"

Martin Yan, the Frugal Gourmet, and Jacques Pepin whenever he had his daughter on. Their banter was great.

I love Paul Prudhomme's accent. "Fahreh foods dat ah luhve!"

I used to watch cooking shows every Saturday, after my cartoons were over. I'd still be partway through breakfast, and I wasn't into wrestling back then (which came on after cartoons on the same channel), so I'd switch to PBS.

Same. That old bastage made stuff that didn't look half bad.

He gives advice that's easy to follow and makes everything seem so nummy and simple. And he's not too hard on the eyes either

I've got to add Jaime Oliver to my list of favorites.

I love his no-nonsense approach, and he's also quite funny. Also his cooking style matches my own. He always cooks for friends, and he feels recipes are just a guideline. "Whack in a nice lump o' butter, that'll make one tasty-ass risotto"
