Post your recepie/story of food you thought wouldn't turn out well, or recepie you invented that went well:

Samalander's Quick & Dirty Mandrin Chicken.

1 chiken breast, cut into strips

1 packet, ramen noodles (any flavor, you won't need the packet)
OR
1 serving, rice

~2 tbsp honey

1 tbsp Mandrin Maranade (I use 'House of Tsang' cause it was easy)

1 medium egg

Salt/soysauce to taste.

I maranade the chiken in the honey/Mandrin mixture for ~40 minutes, turning the strips over once so they are well coated. I heat up my frying pan and stir-fry the chicken while I boil the noodles (or if I'm using rice I cook so that it will be done about the time I start the chicken). When the chicken is done I crack the egg into the drained noodles, and add the left over maranade mixture to them. I then panfry the noodles in the pan I just took the chicken out of, making sure too cook throughly (because I added juice from the chicken in with it. If you're concerned about food saftey, make up another batch of marande and just add it to the noodles) When the noodles are done I dump them onto a plate, add the chicken on top, and eat happily.

The alternate version of this is with rice, what I do then is add the maranade to the fry pan while I'm frying the chicken. When the chicken is done I put down a bed of rice, put the chicken on top, and pour the sauce that I've made in the fry pan over it all.

Servings 1-2 (depending on appetite, and whether the person eating is willing to give up any)
Prep time: 40 minutes, marande, 10 minutes frying(not real sure on the fry time, 'when it's done' is what I do).

"Crap"

1 lb ground beef (fried)
1 can "cream of" soup (any kind, I've had it with mushroom or potato)
1 can of milk (use the soup can)
2 tbsp soya sause
1 tbsp granulated garlic
1 1/2 cups uncooked rice.

Mix all ingredients, and bake at 350F for 45 minutes, or microwave on high for 25 minutes.

My grandmother use to make this stuff. I love it. It doesn't look that great (especially immediately removing it from the microwave), but it tastes great.

Bacon Ice Cream.

1/2 scoop of bacon bits per 4 scoops vanilla ice cream.

It tastes surprisingly yummy.

Hamburger pizza came out surprisingly well, too. Take the pizza crust, and then put on ketchup, pickles, lettuce, hamburger, and mozzarella on top.

Peanut Butter, Jelly, chips, cheese, marshmallows, banana, and mandarin oranges.

Surprisingly good

Serve the following ingredients on marble rye bread:
2 eggs over easy
2 strips of bacon
1 kosher pickle spear, cut into strips
cream cheese
mayonnaise
salt and pepper to taste

(This is a very distant descendant of the fried-egg-chili-chutney sandwich featured on Red Dwarf)

When my family has shit on a shingle, we usually make it with chipped beef.

Also good on toast is creamed tuna and peas.

"Puke Stew"

Package of cream cheese
Can of Rosarita refried beans
Half bottle of salsa, any brand (about a cup)
Sliced or chopped olives
Some Velveeta cheese (optional)
Some pickled (or fresh) jalepenos (optional)


In a saucepan, melt down the cream cheese and Velveeta. Stir in the other ingredients. Serve at room temperature.

It looks exactly like its name, but man is it tasty on tortilla chips.

Anything in the fridge that doesn't try to get away. At least 1 hunk of meat and not less then 2 veggies. Don't use dairy products.

Put ingredints in pot, cover with water (or in one suprisingly successful attempt, some form of juice) add salt, pepper, and other spices as taste and avialabilty permits I've had good luck with sage & oregeno (the pantry being too far across the kitchen is an obstacle) simmer till it tastes done.

This is one of those ideas that only occures to you when you're drunk, hungry and broke. I've also had this go wrong a couple of times, but it works suprisingly well all things concidered.

No real name, but...

1 pint leftover chinese-resturaunt steamed rice (read: it was in the fridge for 2-3 days and I wanted to use it up)
1 can cream of chicken soup.
1/5th can water

Sometimes I add a tiny bit of salt to it if it is too bland.

Well, it may not be that good, but it's quite cheap survival food if you have this stuff laying around. :) Better than eating either ingredient alone.

Hmm... we made some FUB R once in scouts that was amazing.

We aren't exactly sure what went into it. Or how it came out so good. (haven't been able to replicate it since).

We do know that it was a dessert though. And it was made in a dutch oven.

Smoked a turkey last weekend.

26 pound turkey, big bag of mesquite chunks, big bag of charcoal.

Rubbed a bit of kosher salt on the outside of the bird, tossed it in the smoker. Added hot charcoal and some mesquite to the heating side of the smoker. Over the next 28 hours, replaced charcoal and mesquite every few hours as needed.

Oh, good lord, that bird is *YUMMY*!

We're going to do another one about mid-May for the water garden society meeting here.

Chocolate coke.

It's actually a classic diner/fountain drink. From back when soda jerks would mix the Coke syrup and soda water right in the glass, and ordering a "cherry Coke" meant they added cherry syrup too. The classic flavors were vanilla Coke (add vanilla syrup; they recently reintroduced the idea in premixed form), cherry Coke (add cherry syrup), and chocolate Coke (add chocolate syrup, like Hershey's).

Yuo can actually order chocolate Cokes at Denny's, and they'll make it for you. You usually get a great double-take from the waiter though. (Incidentally, Denny's still makes cherry Cokes by adding cherry syrup to Coke instead of using premade Cherry Coke, but I believe they use premade Coke from a modern tap).

Tastes way better than you'd expect.

Skittles go well on nice, hot pizza. Especially semi-greasy pepperoni, compliments the taste quite well.

For an insane sugar/caffiene buzz, crack open a can of Mountain Dew (the real, American, caffinated kind, you Candians out there!), take a brief sip to make room, and add 2-3 pixie sticks. It's just right if you get a slight 'crunch' on the last sip.

For an oh-shiznet-GUESTS?!? dip, cut the top out of a loaf of bread (No, not pre-sliced. Real bread, k?) and pour in ranch dressing. Shred the chunk you cut up into about 1" cubes, and dip away.

And for a good meal, take one beef patty, put ravioli over it, then pour a tomato sauce over it. Tastes great.

I have a friend who likes pistachio ice cream with raspberry sauce and crumbled potato chips. :?: And yes, people ask her if she's pregnant.

The Setup: Any time we make a meal with rice we make extra and make fried rice the next day. The recipe is pretty simple; carrots, ham, onions, eggs, and, of course, cold cooked rice. Fried in oil with various spices. Very tasty.

The Situation: So this week we ate at a Thai restaurant, and had way too much jasmine rice left over. This rice has a very distinct flavor to it, and as I was frying it in the skillet, I got a weird hair up my brain and went with it. We had diced green peppers in it, which is uncommon for us, and the smell of that and the jasmine rice inspired this last-minute addition:

2 packets splenda (or 2 tsp sugar if you're not on a diet)
1 Tbsp lime juice

The green peppers and the sweet & sour confuse my brain; then the ham/salt/oil flavors kick in and it makes for an amazing flavor combo.

Meat Omelet

I had nothing in the fridge to put ON an omelet, so I decided to put things that probably shouldn't go on an omelet, INSIDE.

Ingrediets:

3 eggs (chicken)
3 tbsp fine flour
3 tbsp cream
some sausage
some cheese
ketchup

Basically, mix the eggs and flour together, then add cream and mix again. After that, add finely shredded cheese and sausage into the bowl. Fry on a pan. Eat smeared with ketchup*.

Very good indeed.

* I will not take responsibility if someone smears themselves with ketchup instead of the omelet.

Sounds nice.

Here's a good breakfast buzz:

One can of (thawed) frozen orange juice concentrate.
Three cans of non-diet Mountain Dew.
Use the three cans of Dew instead of water when following the OJ instructions.


Another quickie: Add a teaspoon (or however much you can survive) of crushed red pepper to the water/macaroni mixture when you're making that microwavable single serving Easy-Mac stuff.
