When I was in Ecuador a couple of years ago it seemed quite common, in the rural areas at least, to farm guinea pigs for food :)
Never got the chance to try it though...

Food is not suposed to be cute. That is why we eat cows, pigs, and chicken.

When I was about 6, I had a couple pet sheep. We ate them. I didn't have a problem with it. And I knew full well that we were going to eat them the whole time.

In fact, we named them as a reminder. Chopper (lamb chop) and Leggo (leg of lamb)

I've also had pet cows growing up. We ate them all. Well, not Charlotte, but that's because she was our milk cow.

And then there was the several pigs I raised over the years as 4H projects. Those got auctioned off to people who were going to eat them. And I knew full well.

Not to mention the pigs we kept for ourselves, too.

I guess it's just one of those things you learn when you grow up in the country. Food comes from cute critters.

I wouldn't mind trying guinea pig. I wonder what it tastes like.
