Do we have an official declaration on what maketh a pie? (An answer of "pecans" will not count.) I don't ever recall having a "chocolate pie," only chocolate cake.

I'm not trying to get cheesecake on the ballot, but I'm just curious. :)

Good question. Cheesecake generally comes in a pie-type crust, but it's called a cake, so it's kind of in-between. I'd guess it's more like a pie than a cake. A crust is kind of the defining thing of pie-ness.

That being said, I reiterate that even as pies, cheesecakes still take a back seat to the Pie of Pies, Pecan.

Actually, cheesecake is technically a pie. It just comes in an un-pie-like shape.

And Animal, I'm sorry but nothing could ever hope to beat cheesecake.

The "Chocolate pie" option was meant to incorporate all pies with chocolate as a prominent feature since there are so many chocolate-fiends out there.

Cheesecake is definitely more of a pie than a cake but if you ask most people what it is they will not say pie or cake. Cheesecake is it's own animal. It's just cheesecake. And it rocks.

Believe it or not, I've had pecan pie cheesecake. The best of all worlds.

Except for the One True Pie, Pecan.

I am secure enough in faith to not be bothered by you pagans.

All hail Lemon Meringue, God among pies!

Okay, that beats cheesecake. And pecan. It's greater than the sum of its parts!

This thread is almost as bad as all the election threads combined. :)

Despite my location, I have eaten both pecan and lemon meringue pies.
They are good, I grant you that.
But blueberry pie rules over them. Compared to blueberry pie, lemon meringue is a false god, and pecan just a megalomanical nut.
Blueberry pie rules over both of them.

I was going to make Blueberry an option but the poll wouldn't allow me to put in any more choices.

Me neither; but if I actually get a taste of it, I'm pretty sure it'll be great.

For you heathen that have not yet Seen The Light:

Go forth and eat of the King of Pies, the Pie of Pies, the End-All of Pies, Pecan. Go forth and eateth of the Pecan Pie, and ye shall be delivered.

But not from Shari's -- I had my last slice o' pecan there, and it was nasty beyond belief. It made the thought of mud pie (with actual mud, mind you) palatable. Find an experienced baker and force them to bake it for you.

I realized that my half-vote for pecan pie actually has nothing to do with pie itself -- it's my mother's pecan tartlets that I love. Mind you, the only difference I can think of between the pie and tart is the crust, but the memory of pecan tartlets is making me slide more over to the pecan side.

Although blueberry cheesecake is the ruler of its own domain, and I am but its chief resident.

Really? Because pecan pie is the best pie to have ever graced the surface of this blessed earth. If I could have a warm slice for breakfast every morning I would need not know any other joy.

All hail Pecan Pie, god among foods.

You mean I have to choose? Foo. Strawberry-rhubarb, then, or maybe key lime. I like pecan if it's made well (it rarely is), but not I'm not a fanatic about it. Peach is also good, but I prefer peach cobbler over peach pie, strictly speaking.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Hair Pie yet. I mean, it's gotta be at least as popular as buck cake!

Key lime is sufficiently close to LM. You may live for now.
