The moving arrow sets the launch angle. Click and hold the mouse button to set the angle.

Release when the power meter is at or near maximum.

If he hits a special, a sound will beep with a PRESS on screen. Click the mouse before the sound stops and the red X appears.

When the word AERIAL flashes, click and she'll fly in and hit him again. Flashes red for an upward hit. You get three of those. Blue for a downward hit.

How to get opportunities for specials:

Hit the girl in the pink dress, then hit her again without hitting another girl in between: a sword appears and she slices the guy up, giving him a large boost

Hit the short-haired girl if the next character is the girl with long light-brown hair, or vice versa: the first knocks him into the second, then they team up and do a combo that gives you a large boost

Hit the girl in glasses after hitting any other boost girl without hitting the ground: all of the boost girls team up to slap the crap out of the guy. This is a huge boost.

There are also specials that happen only when you've activated the blocking girl. These cause the guy to glow different colors, and have a few effects: one doubles the strength of all boosts while he's glowing, one makes him extra-bouncy so he doesn't lose height when bouncing, and one that sends him flying horizontally for a ways then launches him. I'm not entirely sure how to get these.

This is the best game ever! It's almost like playing Burnout, although I'm not sure how that is like a car destruction game. ^^;

Well, following some of the special advice I've managed to get even farther.
But I still don't understand why you look like a rejected band member of Twisted Sister after you've been kicked away, or what the deal with the chick on the bicycle is (or, for that matter, why all those guys and gals on the ground want to beat you up)...

The Youko supers ("Comic Force Fields") seem to be activated by a random character each time you hit her. If you hit that character while Youko's blocking is active (and click at the right time), you get a CFF. The specials bar, which normally says "BLOCK" when Youko's blocking is active, will show Youko's face VS Nanaca's face when the trigger character is near. The CFF that I know of are:

Charge Blast - your bishy glows red, and if he ever stops (hits Misato or runs out of forward momentum), he will immediately be boosted back into the air. Hitting boost girls while charged seems to power up the eventual boost, which is a one-time-use (unless you get the super again). This seems to be the CFF you get if Touko (red) is the trigger.

Parachute Death Sentence - the bishy flies horizontally over the heads of the characters for 100 seconds, then is launched into the air at his previous velocity. It basically just adds a bunch to your distance. This is triggered by Kiri (blue).

Bounce - the bishy glows green, and every time he bounces on the ground he gains additional altitude. It seems to eventually wear off. Not sure who causes this.

I only know of one other right now. I don't remember what causes it (I don't keep track as I'm more than happy to get any of these) but it makes it so that any boost you get is doubled. Maybe you turn yellow? Not sure.

I still wonder what a bishy is...
