Great, now I'm buying all these books a third time. Not that I'm really complaining...

Huh, I remembered there was talk about Baen e-publishing them, but hadn't heard anything more on that (which may well just have been lack of attention on my part).

Anyway, is there a chance the other 3 books will eventually get the e-book treatment in the somewhat near future?

(I own the Pius Dei physical set, but e-books are a heck of a lot easier to access, and right now I'm out of free shelf space to put that PD set somewhere other than in storage. Wouldn't be the first time I had copies in different formats of the same work.)

We're going to see how the first four ebooks do before committing to the next three. It's definitely under consideration.

We didn't lead with the full project because at the time we first began discussing this with Baen there were only four books in print (how's THAT for lag!) and there was a lot of churn on formatting. This was the first project of its type that Baen had done. The final product may look obvious in hindsight, but we got all the way out of the box and wandered in the woods for a while before coming back to PDF.

Ah, okay, I can understand that.

FWIW, you're now one set closer to justifying the other three books, as of my clicking the "place order" button a minute ago.

(Thank God I ditched ADSL for cable... 8 minutes instead of almost an hour to D/L them all.)

I bought the books, but didn't have enough time to 'thumb' through it. Are these books using the original scripts or do they use the Great 2011 retcon script?

Good question. I honestly don't know. It depends when they got the last drop of files from me, and I don't remember that.

My wallet is unhappy that I found these. :-/ But I'm glad to see them out.

And having checked, I can confirm that at least 'The Teraport Wars' is still using the original script version with the rules instead of maxims, so I assume it's the same for all of them.

This isn't specific to the e-book, but that's where I noticed it, so instead of dredging up an old thread from way back when I'm going to abuse the proximity to the top of the forum index. :D

Anyway, I understand from searching through this forum's older posts that the first thousand strips were originally not going to be published in physical format due to publishers being turned off by the early art for the strip, which is why the print version of Under New Management ends with a note about it being Book 1, when the online comic archive has it as Book 3.

My question, then: Will there will ever be a renumbering to map the books to the online archive now that there is a publisher that isn't turned off by the art quality of the first thousand strips, or will they be left as-is under the "let sleeping dogs lie" concept (not to mention "I have plenty to do as it is, I don't need more work" :P )?

The books have already been renumbered. The 2nd printing of UNM and the 2nd edition of TBB (LOTS of edits, and a change in page-count to accommodate better book construction) both have numbers on the spine, "3" and "4" respectively.

It seems that I was insufficiently specific about my curiosity, my apologies.

The renumbering I meant was for the ending note on each volume ("And thus ends..."), which in the first printing has the book names but not numbers for TToH and TTW, with books from UNM onward ending using "And thus ends Book #". I have a 2nd printing of UNM with the ending note reading "Book 1", the other 6 volumes in the PD pack I bought at dragoncon 2011 being 1st edition.

Well, that's a typo that will have to wait for the 3rd printing.

These things happen.

Ok. It's not exactly a huge catastrophe as-is, and I'm pretty sure it's hardly sufficient in and of itself to rush that 3rd printing, I was just kinda curious.
